Off and running

3/10/2007

OLDHAM North Stars baseball team earned their first win with a 16-8 victory over Midland League side Soar Valley Blue Sox in a three-team tournament at Manchester Baseball Club.

Faced with a 6-5 deficit after four innings, North Stars added six in the fifth and five in the sixth while restricting Blue Sox to just two further runs in the top of the seventh inning, meaning North Stars did not need to bat.

They had earlier suffered a 22-1 defeat against the hosts, meaning they ended the tournament with one win and one loss.

Off the field, the team has agreed to use Royton and Crompton School as their home field for the 2008 season and expect to have their application for league status approved shortly.

Team manager John Brooks said: "To end with a win over a league side at this stage of our development is the icing on the cake."
