Carl’s crucial brace

12/ 9/2007

A TYPICAL local derby saw the bragging rights go Waterhead's way thanks to a 22-20 victory over Oldham St Annes.

Two penalty goals from Lee Forsyth put Saints 4-0 up after eight minutes, only for Waterhead to reply with Mark Leyden's try and Kiel Lancashire's goal which put them 6-4 ahead.

David Cookson's score put Saints back in front before Carl Sneyd gave Waterhead the lead again with the first of his two tries, leaping to collect Ryan Collins' high kick before touching down to make it 10-8, Lancashire adding the conversion.

Leading 12-8 going into the second half, Waterhead extended their lead through Lancashire's penalty before Saints levelled proceedings when Phillip Jagger crossed and Chris Conway converted.

Sneyd proved to be the gamebreaker with 20 minutes left, taking another high kick from Collins to score his second try and make it 18-14.

The home side went further ahead thanks to a pair of Lancashire penalties before Casey Mayberry's try and Conway's goal ended the scoring.
