Shield quarter-finals are finalised

LAST weekend's Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance fixtures saw the final group games in the league's Shield competition.

Group A saw AJK's firsts hold onto top spot after a seven-wicket victory against a depleted St Anne's side.

Saints were all out for 118 before AJK replied with 119-3 to earn maximum points.

They were joined in the next stage by Greengate who secured runners-up spot thanks to a winning draw against Radclyffe.

Batting first, Greengate totalled 183-7 with Clark making an unbeaten 85 before taking 3-12 as Radclyffe were 122-8 in reply at the completion of their innings.

Group B leaders Europa Exiles had a comfortable win against fellow qualifiers Friends after dismissing them for 64.

St Mary's OPC were victorious by 57 runs at Waterhead Methodist where the home team was all out for 133 chasing their visitors' 190 all out in which Zeer made 54.

AJK's seconds qualified from Group C by way of a winning draw at St Mary's HC where Iftikhar's 82 helped AJK post 201-5, after which Warren's unbeaten 61 helped the home side reach 158-4.

The game between Group D's two qualifiers went the way of Bharat as they dismissed Newtonhurst for 101 before Adi's undefeated 44 helped Bharat reach 107-5.

The last eight matches see Jay Hind play Friends, AJK II host Europa Exiles, Greengate face Newtonhurst and AJK I on the road at Bharat.

The teams that did not qualify for the last eight - St Anne's, Radclyffe, St Mary's OPC, Waterhead Methodist, St Mary's HC and Cane - all progress into the Supplementary competition.

That draw sees Radclyffe play St Anne's and Waterhead Methodist face Cane with St Mary's HC and St Mary's OPC receivng byes.
