Challengers capitalise on AJK's blank weekend

CRICKET: WITH the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance division one leaders AJK not in action, the teams challenging them for top spot took advantage of their absence by recording maximum-point victories.
At St Mary's OPC, the home side were dismissed for 162 with Asif making 51 and Hill taking 3-30 for a St Anne's team who were all out for 91 in reply. Rizwan took 6-39 and Wasim 3-22 as St Mary's took six points and top spot.
Bharat moved into second place thanks to a six-wicket victory over St Mary's HC as Sandip's 6-34 saw St Mary's all out for 72 before Bharat reached 75-4 in reply despite Cadman's 3-18.
The match at Europa Exiles saw visiting Radclyffe all out for 77, Clarke taking 4-21 for Europa who sealed victory by reaching 83-4, Hodgson making an unbeaten 29.
Division two leaders Friends had a comfortable victory at Waterhead Methodist where Nadeem's 4-27 saw the home side all out for 120.
Amjad Ali (54 not out) and Arshad Rizwan (65 not out) then took Friends to a six-point victory.
Newtonhurst had a 111-run victory at Cane Studios as Boyle's 70 helped them to 156 all out before Courtney's 5-12 and Drummond's 3-24 saw the home side all out for 45 in reply.
Elsewhere, Wrigley made 56 and Krishna took 3-31 as Greengate were 165-7 at the completion of their overs against a Jay Hind team who were left hanging on for a point at 85-8 in reply.
Ball ended with figures of 3-20 for the home side who ended with five points.
The Shield matches played on Sunday saw St Anne's take five points from their Group A game against Radclyffe.
Batting first, Saints compiled 238-7 with Lord hitting 61 and Adams 55 before Radclyffe's response ended with them on 127-8, Lee providing them with an unbeaten 42.
Elsewhere in the group, AJK reached 240-9 against Greengate, Hamed with 69 and Muna Nadeen 52, while Greengate could only muster 134-7 in reply.
There was a maximum point-haul in Group B as Friends recorded a 67-run triumph against St Mary's OPC, Shahid compiling 64 in Friends' 222-8 before St Mary's OPC were all out for 155.
Europa Exiles were six-wicket winners against Waterhed Methodist as the latter were restricted to 112-8 before Hodgson's 44 saw Europa to victory on 115-4.
The only match in Group C saw AJK's second team triumph by five wickets against Jay Hind, reaching 180-5 chasing Hind's 176-6.
Group D saw Newtonhurst take six points against Cane Studios as they made 166-8 and then dismissed Cane for 72, Jeffs with 3-8 and Buckley 3-5.
