Radclyffe’s struggles on Alliance opening day

THE weather helped to make it an excellent start to the new Ashton and Oldham Alliance cricket season.

With last season's division one champions and runners-up not in action, AJK took advantage with a victory against newly-promoted Radclyffe, Arif taking 4-13 as Radclyffe were 67 all out before Nadeen's unbeaten 40 took AJK to 69-2.

Rizwan's 3-22 aided St Mary's OPC in bowling out Europa Exiles for 88 - despite Hodgson making 40 - before Saints reached their target with six wickets in hand.

In division two, new club Friends reached 275-6 from their 40 overs thanks to an unbroken stand between Imran (118 not out) and Nadeem (55 not out), Suresh taking 3-39 for Jay Hind who were 131-6 at the close with Paresh Patel unbeaten on 65.

Waterloo Methodist had an excellent victory from an exciting game at Cane where they totalled 125-9 batting first, Hirst top-scoring with an unbeaten 28 while Mulroy took 5-29 for Cane.

Although Swindells made 48 in reply, Cane were all out for 110 with Waterson taking 4-13 and Branham 3-34.

AJK's seconds were dismissed for 121 at Greengate, Haji hitting 31 with Simpson taking 3-16 and Clarke 3-7 for the hosts.

Hunter's 54 and Ball's 29 then gave Greengate maximum points as they ended on 126-5.
