Strugglers exit relegation place

14/ 3/2007

THE latest Oldham and District Table Tennis matches saw Hollinwood C finally move out of division one's relegation zone with four matches remaining.

They did so despite losing 6-4 against Honeywell Lane A and were replaced by Rosehill B after they were beaten 9-1 by Hollinwood B.

At the other end of the table, Glodwick remained on course to win the title for the first time after they whitewashed Hollinwood A 10-0.

They stayed clear of Aerospace A who were held to a 5-5 draw at Hyde YMCA, while Werneth A had an 8-2 victory over OTTC A, the score by which Werneth B beat Uppermill A.

Werneth C remained at the head of division two after an 8-2 defeat of Failsworth A.

They were given an unexpected boost when nearest challengers Unison A were held to a surprise 5-5 draw by Honeywell Lane C.

Third-placed Grotton A closed the gap on the front two after beating Unison B.

However, the division's big surprise came as Pennine defeated Hyde YMCA B 7-3.

Second-bottom Uppermill B look set for a return to division three after going down to an 8-2 defeat to Hollinwood E.

The mid-table clash between Honeywell B and First Transport ended in a 6-4 victory for Honeywell.

Gilders A carried on their march towards the division three title after beating Failsworth C 9-1.

Werneth D remained in second place despite drawing with Failsworth B.

Unison C were unable to take advantage of Werneth's draw as they were also held to a stalemate by Coldhurst B.

Those results allowed fourth-placed Grotton B to make up ground on Werneth and Unison by way of their 7-3 victory over Gilders B.

That was the margin of victory enjoyed by Owls A against Coldhurst, while the division's third draw came between Unison D and Honeywell Lane E.

Division four leaders Coldhurst D virtually secured promotion after defeating third-placed Honeywell Lane F 7-3, the score by which second-placed Uppermill C won at Failsworth F.

There were also 7-3 victories for Coldhurst F against OTTC B and Werneth E over Failsworth E. Owls B drew with Coldhurst E, while Werneth F saw off Honeywell Lane G 9-1.
