Trio preparing for Alliance competition

BROOKDALE professional Tony Cuppello, Royton's Scott Connor, who is the assistant professional at Manchester Golf Club and Chadderton's Martyn Hamer have all received byes in to the first round of the 2007 Manchester Alliance matchplay event.

Denton's professional Mike Hollingworth is the defending champion after defeating David Brunton at Flixton.

Connor said: "I've played regularly in the Alliance competitions this winter and there are some terrific pros out there, so it will be a great experience for me to play at this level against some of the best players in the north."

There are six preliminary round matches which all involve top amateurs, including former winner James Murphy of Shrigley Hall, last year's Alliance captain.

Betterball Stableford action at Saddleworth was led by Andy Wilde and John Moon's 48-pointer.
