Teamwork takes third place

OLDHAM and Royton Harriers' under-13s boys team worked well together for third place at the Greater Manchester Cross County Championships at Bury.

Mike Smith was fifth in 12:47, followed by Jake Ragan (16th, 14:00), Josh Donald (19th, 14:54) and Alex Edwards (23rd, 16:40).

In the under-17s men's race, Sam Witter came sixth in 25:04 with Mark Mannings 19th in 28:16.

Katie Keeley coped well with the muddy conditions to finish sixth in the under-20s ladies race in 24:32, while Emily Crompton was 25th in 21:38 in the under-15s girls race. In the under-20s men's race, Mike Mannings was 11th in 33:12.

In the senior men's race, David Smith was 27th in 51:40, followed by Brian Schofield (38th, 54:46), and Alistair Mallen (52nd, 58:26).

On the track, four Oldham athletes travelled to Sheffield to compete in the indoor arena.

In the 1,000m Rob Ingham had a great run of 2:30, followed by Reece Hendley in 2:42.

Thomas Milnes achieved a personal best of 5.18m in the long jump and followed that up with a time of 8.2 seconds for the 60m sprint. Ryan Thompson jumped 4.50m and ran 8.31s in the 60m.
