Town is marching on

8/11/2006

Royton Town 3
Leigh Athletic 2

ROYTON Town secured their second successive win with a 3-2 victory over Leigh Athletic.

Continuing their recent fine form, Town could afford the luxury of a blip in the second minute, which gave Leigh the lead after a failure to clear from defence.

Wayne Dean equalised on 25 minutes with a free-kick that the goalkeeper failed to keep out, despite getting his fingertips to the shot.

Town were looking good for three points, and it was no surprise when Rik Wild put the home team in front on 48 minutes after a fumble by the 'keeper.

The best was to come in the 69th minute when a free-kick from Wild from all of 45 yards totally caught the 'keeper flat-footed and all he could do was watch the ball hit the back of the net.

Leigh pulled one back on 86 minutes, but the day belonged to Town who continue their recent run with another three points.

Town's second string returned from the University grounds with a 3-2 win over West Didsbury and Chorlton, which sees them jump into fourth place.

Pete Illingworth, Callum Frizzell and Rick Headen were on target to secure the points.
