A derby day delight

SADDLEWORTH Rangers withheld a late fightback to defeat Waterhead 22-16 at Peach Road.

Three tries gave the men from Shaw Hall Bank Road victory, but they were made to work hard for it.

Two Carl Sneyd goals gave the home side a 4-0 lead with 14 minutes gone, only for Rangers to establish a 12-4 advantage by half-time.

Emerson Jackman's break gave Ben Pritchard a try for Rangers before Danny Atherton's conversion put them two points ahead.

They doubled their points tally quarter of an hour before half-time when Pritchard crossed for his second try, Atherton again with the extras as Saddleworth established an eight-point lead at the break.

Sneyd's third goal three minutes after half-time brought Waterhead within a converted try, but it was Rangers who extended their lead instead.

Atherton landed a penalty before Frazer Coley scored the try of the game, beating two men for a length-of-the-field score.

Atherton's goal put Rangers 14 points up, but the home side responded with two tries in five minutes for Carlton Campbell and Paul Bennett, the latter goaled by Sneyd.

However, Atherton's second penalty gave Rangers victory.
