Act of Folly sees Rangers beaten
6/ 9/2006
SADDLEWORTH Rangers' under-16s went down 16-14 against Folly Lane.
Both sides had been relegated on equal points last season, but were battling it out for a speedy return to the North West Counties Premier Division after Ashton Bears' decision to decline promotion.
A tight match saw Folly kick an early penalty before Rangers replied with a 50-yard try from Andy Curwell.
Folly took the lead with a converted try before Jack Bradbury sent the ball 80 yards into the Folly half, Steven Nield winning the chase for a try.
With half-time looming, a crossfield move sent Curwell over for a try, goaled by James Greenwood, which made it 14-8.
Both sides made errors in possession after half-time, one leading to an interception try for Folly which meant they trailed 14-12.
Defences were on top, but an error in the tackle gave Folly good field position from which they scored the winning try.
