Top two are set for final showdown

THE top two teams from division one of the Ashton & Oldham Cricket Alliance will contest the Dukes Shield final following their victories in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Bharat had a convincing victory over Newtonhurst who, after their allocation of overs were 98-9, Des Mistry the best of the Bharat bowlers with 3-29.

In reply, an unbroken partnership between Rakesh (33) and Reg (37) took their team to the final as they ended on 99-3.

The other game saw AJK I score an impressive 210 from their 35 overs after excellent knocks from Imran Hussain (64) and Kamran Hussain (60).

Asad was the most economical bowler for St Mary's OPC, taking 3-48, but the target was always too much for OPC as they could only manage 165 despite good knocks from Wasim (33) and Asir (31), Sajid taking 3-21.

The final will take place on Saturday at Droylsden Cricket Club, starting at 1.30pm.

The remaining Fawcett/Penney Supplementary Cup semi-final was an exciting game despite low scoring.

Batting first, Waterhead Methodist were dismissed for 80 by Cane Studios who saw Gittings end with 3-9.

Cane's reply began steadily, but after losing their first wicket and an interruption for rain, never recovered and were dismissed for 73, Heywood with 3-22 and Branham 3-23.

Waterhead Methodist will now meet St Anne's in the final at Uppermill on Saturday, also commencing at 1.30pm.
