WOODHOUSES stretched the gap between themselves and their nearest challengers in the JW Lees Lancashire County Cricket League with victory over Cheetham Hill last weekend.

With all of Saturday's games washed out because of the wet weather, the Medlock Road men did their bit with a seven-wicket win the following day to go five points clear with three games remaining.

It was Mike Cassidy who starred for the local side as his 5-31 helped his team dismiss Cheetham Hill for 141.

In reply, he then made 57 as Woodhouses took maximum points by finishing their innings on 145-3.

They extended their lead by way of a tie between Denton St Lawrence and Denton West, the former reaching 174-6 and the latter 174-7, while Prestwich could only take four points in their derby victory against Stand, making 109-1 chasing Stand's total of 108-8.

The weather also wrecked the Lake Garage Central Lancashire League with only Oldham of the four local clubs able to take the field.

As with the JW Lees Lancashire County Cricket League, all of Saturday's play was washed out, the weather relenting sufficiently for Oldham to play their game at Unsworth 24 hours later.

However, they fell to an 82-run defeat as the home side rattled up 248-6 in their overs, Mujihid Jamshed making 85.

Mark Charlton ended with figures of 5-91 for Oldham who reached 167-8 in reply, Paul Thompson with an undefeated 67.
