Bharat battle for Saints victory

THERE was an exciting finish to the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance division one match between Bharat and St Annes.

Lloyd (34), Lees (28), Cave (26) and Adams (22) helped Saints compile 173-9 in their innings, only for Joshi (29), Jayant (23) and Rakesh (23) to help Bharat tie the scores at the start of the final over.

A winning run with two balls remaning ensured Bharat squeezed to a one-wicket triumph, while there was also victory for Europa Exiles in their match at Levenshulme Cavaliers.

Batting first, the home side were dismissed for 162, Jones top-scoring with 33 while Hodgson took 3-22 for Europa.

In reply, Bradbury's 55 ensured Europa took maximum points as they crossed the winning line with five wickets in hand.

Simpson's undefeated 62 and Kirk's 53 helped Newtonhurst total 162-5 against Jay Hind I.

However, Dharmesh then made 67 to help Jay Hind to an eight-wicket victory and five points.

St Marys HC remain at the top of division two after an excellent victory at Radclyffe who batted first and made 176-9, Robinson hitting their top score of 76.

Despite the high target facing them, St Marys had little trouble in reaching it, ending on 179-2 thanks to good knocks from Rush (61), Jolley (57 not out) and Lawrence (42 not out).

At Jay Hind II, visitors Waterhead Methodist were dismissed for 148 despite Meynall's innings of 45 as Anish took 4-21 for the hosts.

Manhar's excellent knock of 65 and Harshad's unbeaten 32 gave Jay Hind victory and maximum points as they reached 152-4, while the final game brought victory for Cane Studios over AJK.
