COUNTHILL'S year nine side began their Oldham Schools Rugby League Cup campaign with a 54-12 victory over St Augustines in the opening pool stage game.

They scored 11 tries in all through Luke Wrigley, Tom Whitehead, Tom Rowlatt (two each), Gareth Owen, Andy Burgess, Nathan Tosum, Wayne Blakeley and Danny Borland. Tosum added four goals and Matt Fogarty one.

In reply, Augustines scored tries through Troy Lynch and Rob Kivlin, the latter converting both of their scores.

However, Counthill's side - made up of club-standard players - proved too strong on the day.

  • OLDHAM'S under-12s and under-13s town teams are back in action on Saturday when they face Salford at Counthill, kick-off at 10.30am.

The under-14s and under-15s are away against Salford and will probably play their matches at Eccles.
