Lancashire loss for teens
24/ 5/2006
RL: THE dismal run of results suffered by Oldham's under-14s town team continued last Saturday when they were beaten 24-16 at Counthill by a well drilled Lancashire team.
Oldham spent the opening half of the match under severe pressure and they did well to turn round only 8-0 in arrears.
Early in the second half, Oldham clicked into gear with a try from second-row forward Matthew Fogarty of Waterhead who was sent over by club colleague Gareth Owen.
Oldham St Annes' second-row forward Matthew Lee then scored a fine individual try, the conversion from Owen putting Oldham 10-8 in front.
Midway through a highly entertaining half, Lancashire scored two converted tries to regain the lead at 20-10.
Owen scored a try which was converted by Fogarty to put Oldham back in contention at 20-16 down, only for a late Lancashire try to end their fightback.
Saturday sees the under-12s and under-13s entertain South Yorkshire at Counthill.
Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 10.30am.
