Oldham shock the Saints

OLDHAM'S under-12s town team bounced back from their heavy defeat the week before at Warrington as they recorded an excellent 26-12 victory over St Helens at Waterhead.

The Oldham youngsters defied cold, wet, blustery conditions to sweep aside a capable St Helens team full of scholarship candidates.

Waterhead's Ben Whitehead set the ball rolling with a try he also converted as Oldham built up a 14-0 half-time lead thanks to tries from team-mate Danny Yates and Oldham St Annes' Oliver Kerr.

That advantage was extended when St Annes' Ewan Reddyoff sliced through for a try which Ben Whitehead converted.

Whitehead then completed the Oldham scoring with a second try which he converted to put Oldham 26-0 in front.

Although St.Helens came back with two converted tries, Oldham were clearly the better side.

Oldham now meet the Central Lancashire region in the next round of Service Area matches.

The under-12s and under-13s are away with the under-14s and under-15s playing at either Counthill or Waterhead depending on the availability of the Counthill pitches. Matches kick off at 10.30am.
