HAVING beaten Normanton Knights in midweek to avoid seeking re-election, Saddleworth Rangers ended their season with a 28-16 defeat against Ovenden.
Tries for Ben Lister and Danny Jones gave Ovenden an 8-0 lead with 17 minutes gone, only for Rangers to lead half-time through Terry Whalley and Neil Kirwan tries, plus an Adam Kirwan conversion.
However, 16 unanswered points took Ovenden clear as Chris Teoghegan, Chris Hartley and Steve Gracey crossed for tries, Jones kicking two conversions for a 24-10 lead.
Tom Kilgannon's try and Adam Kirwan's goal gave Rangers hope, but Gracey's second try with four minutes left ensured it was Ovenden who signed off their season in style.
