London calling

FOURTEEN athletes from Royton Road Runners completed the London Marathon.

Leading the way was Bernard Goodwin with a personal best time of 3:13.12, ahead of Bryan Lawton (3:16.12) and veteran Dave Phillip (3:21.44).

Steve Shaw (3:30.13) was closely followed by reigning marathon champion Bernard Cassidy (3:32.14) and Steve's wife Debbie Shaw (3:33.55).

Richard Higgs finished in 3:34.11, heading off Dean Burgess and Ged Navesey who both recorded times of 3:48.33 and John Williamson (3:50.31).

Stuart Carroll ended with a time of 3:54.26 while Liz Muir completed the course in 4:26.10 and Richard Knebel in 5:29.26.

The same day also saw four members competing in the Lochaber marathon 500 miles away, Barry Greaves being the first of the finishers in 3:02.05.

Jeff Cordwell (3:57.41), Trevor Grundy (4:17.59) and Pete Stals (4:48.00) also completed the race.
