Back from brink

19/ 4/2006

SADDLEWORTH Rangers lifted themselves off the foot of the table as five tries gave them a 30-24 victory against Stanningley.

Early tries for Dave Wilson and Tony Glynn gave Stanningley an 8-0 lead after 14 minutes before Rangers got on the scoreboard with Danny Attersall's try four minutes later, goaled by Adam Kirwan.

However, Chris Rouse's 22nd minute try put Stanningley six points ahead at 12-6, only for Emerson Jackman's try and Kirwan's goal to level up the scores just before the half-hour.

It was Stanningley who led at half-time though as Stuart McGill crossed just before the break, goaling his own try to give them an 18-12 lead at the interval.

The second half belonged to Rangers as they outscored their opponents by three tries to one.

They levelled the scores 10 minutes into the second half when James Whalley went over for a try, Kirwan adding his third goal, and taking the lead when Steve Jagger went over for another try converted by Kirwan.

Attersall's second try and Kirwan's fifth goal made it 30-18 with 15 minutes remaining, and although Paul Robinson scored a try goaled by McGill with seven minutes to go, Rangers held out.
