Rosehill’s A team assert their superiority
29/ 3/2006
THE semi-finals of the Divisional Handicap Cups took place last week in the Oldham and District Table Tennis League.
Rosehill A overcame their B team thanks to gains for Dave Pegg (35), Phil Ashworth and Ian Stott (31 each) resulting in a 52-point win.
They will now face BAE A in the final after a Tony Bates gain of 45 points, together with a 28-point contribution from Tony Smith gave them an overall winning margin of 51 points in their match against Glodwick.
Success-starved Hollinwood D will feature in the division two final after a narrow 12-point win over Failsworth A.
Glen Dowse gained 22, backed by Steve Mather's haul of 20 to edge proceedings for Hollinwood.
They will face Coldhurst A who progressed thanks to a narrow 21-point win over Hyde YM B.
Gains from Nick Bakewell (36) and Dennis Bradshaw (28) were to no avail since the handicaps in favour of Coldhurst proved too steep a hurdle.
The division three final will be an all-Failsworth affair as Failsworth C had Ray Woods (60) and Derek Buckley (38) to thank for steering them to an overall 23-point win over Gilders B.
Failsworth D's deficits were kept to a minimum in order for them to defeat Unison C by nine points. Andy Hey's sizeable gain of 64 points proved to no avail.
In division four, Coldhurst E defeated their D team by 478 to 454 and Honeywell E defeated Uppermill C by 19 points.
