Terry’s treble

29/ 3/2006

TERRY Whalley's hat-trick helped Saddleworth Rangers into the last eight of the GMB National Cup as they came from behind to beat Hensingham 39-26.

Having conceded an early try to James Cartmell, goaled by Andy Pattinson, tries from Whalley and Adam Kirwan plus three Jonny Horton goals gave Rangers a 14-6 lead.

However, two Glynn Hyslop tries and Pattinson goals gave the visitors the lead at half-time, which they subsequently extended to 24-14 through Rhys Fox's try and a Pattinson penalty.

Whalley's try and Horton's goal narrowed the gap before Pattinson's goal put Hensingham 26-20 ahead, only for Tom Kilgannon's try and Horton's conversion to force extra time.

Lars Haigh's converted try gave Rangers the lead on 84 minutes before Kirwan put them 33-26 ahead with a field goal.

Whalley's third try and another Horton conversion then proved enough to book a quarter-final at Leigh Miners Rangers.
