OULTON Raiders overturned defeat on the opening day of the season with a 22-16 victory against Oldham St Annes at Higginshaw Road.
Saints saw John Gillam's second minute try ruled out for a forward pass as both sides came close to scoring in the opening quarter.
It was Oulton who opened the scoring when Neil Bradbrook broke through the midfield and offloaded for man-of-the-match Gavin Wood to beat off three defenders and score.
They went further ahead when Mark Holmes gathered his own kick to send Alan White in unopposed for the second try, Holmes slotting over the extras.
Raiders went 16 points up on the half-hour when Holmes converted a try wide out from Billy Kershaw.
The second half saw Richard Badby denied a try in the corner before Saints' David Best and Oulton hooker Stephen Doherty were dismissed for fighting.
The last quarter belonged to Oldham as they scored three tries, only for Sasch Brook to snatch victory with a converted try three minutes from time.
