Platt’s the way to do it

SADDLEWORTH golfer Jeff Platt has returned after a dream golf trip to Sawgrass, Florida, where he took part in the final of the international Red Bull Challenge.

Jeff, a 21-handicapper, qualified in a club competition run by Saddleworth professional Robert Johnson where the scores for the last five holes count after drinking a can of the sponsors' product.

This took him to the regional final at the De Vere Heron's Reach course, Blackpool, where he repeated his fabulous finish to qualify for Sawgrass, which stages major US Tour events.

Jeff will now be looking to qualify for the 2006 final, which will be staged at Pinehurst - another of the top US courses.

Golfers should also note that the venue for the 2006 GMWN Trophy finals day is now Marple and not Brookdale as originally announced.

The main sponsor will once more be Peter Walsh of Fairway Holidays who will be giving a golfing break in South West Ireland for two in both the men's and ladies sections - but there plenty of other great prizes on offer.

Details of how to enter the 2006 competition will be published next month.
