New final format

BROOKDALE Golf Club hosts the 2006 final of the GMWN Trophy which will see the ladies' event boast a new format.
The previous five years has seen the competition played as a singles KO for men and women in their own groups, playing matchplay rounds before the last 30 players then take part in the final.
That will again be the case for the men in 2006, but the woman will play in a pairs KO in a bid to reach finals day which is Sunday, September 10.
Organiser Alan Simmons said: "Oldham clubs have always given the GMWN Trophy great support and the change to ladies pairs should increase the entry as it is a very sociable form of golf."
Details of how to enter next year's event will be published next month.
The main sponsor will again be Peter Walsh of Fairway Holidays, who will be giving a golfing break in South West Ireland for two in both the men's and ladies sections.
