FIVE Oldham-based players each played significant roles for the North West under-18s when they drew 28-28 with Yorkshire in Leeds on Saturday.

Winger Darren Fletcher (St Anne's) had few chances, but played his part in what was an entertaining encounter.

His centre partner, Chris Hepworth (Waterhead), tackled superbly all afternoon to keep Yorkshire at bay when they threatened to run away with the match in the second half.

Second-row forward Liam Hall (Saddleworth Rangers) worked tirelessly throughout and must have impressed the national selectors.

Back-row forward Carl Sneyd (Waterhead) also gave an impressive performance.

With Yorkshire 24-10 in front midway through the second half, it was a great try from Sneyd which sparked off the North West comeback.

He also grabbed vital possession from a restart kick three minutes from time which gave the North West the belief and position from where they snatched the draw.

Hooker Eric Johnson (St Anne's) was the player who scored the equalising try with the last move of the match. His determination and tenacity to score that try was matched by his enthusiasm for the game. Immediately after the final whistle he dashed off to Hull so that he could play for his club in an important National Conference League fixture.
