New boys help Hollinwood reach summit

HOLLINWOOD A maintained their excellent start to the new Oldham and District Table Tennis League with an 8-2 win against OTTC B.

New signings Tim Hatton and Jon De Pledge were both unbeaten as Hollinwood stay joint top of division one with BAE A and OTTC A.

Daryl Meredith was unbeaten for Werneth A in the 6-4 win at BAE A, while Dave Hamilton's treble was in vain for Honeywell as they were edged 6-4 by.

Bottom side Werneth C were again unfortunate, losing 6-4 to Hyde YM A for whom Steve Lyons was unbeaten.

George Jones' treble gave Hollinwood B their first win over BAE B 8-2. Honeywell C lost ground in division two, losing 7-3 to Unison A for whom Paul Howarth trebled.

Honeywell B fared somewhat better after a 6-4 win at First Transport in which Tim Baker was unbeaten.

Doubles from Pennine's Glen Chadwick, John Robertson and Adrian Tindale were enough for a 6-4 win over Coldhurst A.

Leaders Uppermill A swept aside Failsworth B 9-1, Glen Hewitt and Gary Crossley producing unbeaten stints.

Division three's match of the week was the clash between the D teams of Honeywell and Werneth. Mike Pellowe and Alan Else were both unbeaten as Werneth won 7-3.

Dave Harthan's treble was in vain as Steve Smith and Neil Tomlinson doubles gave Grotton B a 6-4 win against Owls A.

Runaway division four leaders Coldhurst D saw Terry Holland and Malcolm Wills unbeaten in their 9-1 formality against Owls B.

That was the score by which Unison D triumphed, Dennis Heyes and Martin Haigh trebling, while Jordan McNamara was unbeaten as Failsworth F beat their E team 8-2.

A Murray Corbin treble helped Coldhurst E to a 7-3 win over Deaf Club, while unbeaten stints from OTTC C's Rebekah Griffith and Carl Simpson gave them a 7-3 win at Werneth F.

  • THE Oldham inter-league seniors season begins next Sunday at Blackpool where the two teams will be looking to consolidate Premier and division one table tennis respectively.
