Nowhere to Hyde for Coldhurst

THE latest play in the Oldham and District Table Tennis League saw Uppermill A make a statement to the rest of division two with a comfortable despatching of Grotton A 9-1.

Gary Crossley and Mark Simpson were unbeaten, backed by a Glen Hewitt double for the new leaders.

Elsewhere, Coldhurst A were whitewashed 10-0 by Hyde YM B for whom Steve Lyons, Nick Bakewell and Dennis Bradshaw starred, while Paul Howarth and Liaquat Ali were unbeaten as Unison D defeated Hollinwood D 8-2.

Hollinwood's other teams struggled with the E side losing 6-4 against Pennine and the C team being held 5-5 by First Transport.

Division one saw Werneth B and Hollinwood B draw 5-5 with Colin Boardman unbeaten for 'Wood and Phil Myers posting a double in reply.

Glodwick beat BAE B 7-3 thanks to doubles from Kamal Hussain, Siful Khan and Majid Tubasum.

OTTC B prevailed 6-4 against Rosehill A with Gary Skinner unbeaten and Phil Wilkinson recording a double.

Werneth D remain top of division three after beating Gilders A 7-3, Mike Pellowe once again remaining unbeaten and backed up by an Alan Else double. Martin Nicholls replied likewise.

There was an 8-2 victory for Grotton B against Failsworth D with Steve Smith unbeaten and Alan Sarsfield and Neil Tomlinson adding doubles, while Matthew Evans replied with two.

There were also draws for Failsworth C, Owls A and Uppermill B.

In division four, Coldhurst D went to the top after they beat their E side 7-3, Malcolm Willis unbeaten and Terry Holland providing a double as did Murray Corbin.

Previous leaders Uppermill C went down 6-4 against Unison D with John Mark recording a treble.

That was also the score by which Failsworth F beat Werneth E, while Owls B comfortably disposed of Coldhurst F 9-1 with Dinesh Gorasia and Richard Pullen contributing trebles.
