Louise leads the way

OLDHAM and Royton Harriers' Louise Clarkson produced another good display at a race in aid of Springhill Hospice.

The race started by Dame Mary Peters, the 1972 Olympic pentathlon gold medallist, took competitors from the Broad Lane hospice to Oldham Road, past St Cuthbert's School, along Shaw Road, Castleton Road and Thornham Road.

They then climbed up to the Colliers Return before finishing with a downhill trek back to Broad Lane.

Clarkson finished the ladies race in sixth spot overall and second for her age group in 31:20.

Serafina Bott was ninth in the ladies race in 33:09, followed by club debutant Charlotte Ashton who was 14th in a time of 35:07.

Sandrine Fraisse found her time of 35:40 was good enough for 16th place in the ladies race.

Elsewhere, Pete Williams was 29th in his race with a time of 29:08.
