ROYTON were lucky to come away from Atherton with only a 2-1 defeat in their Air Miles Manchester Football League match.
A brilliant display of goalkeeping from Russ Billing saved Town from a heavy defeat.
Town lived on borrowed time throughout the game with Billing the saviour on numerous occasions.
Atherton scored twice mid way through the second half as only a last-minute strike from leading scorer Chris Mackay gave any respectability to the result for Town.
The second team lost 2-0 at home to Wythenshawe Town and the youth team 3-1 at home to Woodbank Juniors, despite a second-half fightback which culminated in a goal from captain Pete Illingworth.
