A DAVE Worrall hat-trick helped Oldham to their first league win of the season at Manor Park on Saturday.

Oldham scored eight tries in all during what was a much-improved display.

Will Mellor gave a sign of things to come with a try disallowed early on for a forward pass.

However, Oldham shrugged that off and scored a legitimate try when Peter Scrivens sent Worrall over by the posts, Jimmy Forster adding the conversion.

A Mike Hart penalty brought the Cumbrian side to within four points before Oldham extended their second with a second try 10 minutes before half-time.

Forster's penalty had initially hit the upright before the Workington fullback spilled the ball under pressure, allowing Forster to touch down and give Oldham a 12-3 lead at half-time.

The second half saw the Manor Park men pull away, scoring at a point a minute.

Dave Kenney scored the next try, kicking ahead and winning the race to touch down, Forster kicking the extras.

Worrall then went over for his second try, again converted by Forster, after Kenney was brought down having made a break.

He could not be caught later on though, running from halfway for his second try before Worrall scored his hat-trick try after good work from Scrivens and Forster who both added converted tries of their own late on.
