Greaves leads Royton home

ROYTON Road Runners had 25 members taking part in the Saddleworth six-mile road race, the 12th in their club championship series.

Barry Greaves was the first Royton runner to finish with a creditable time of 38 mins, 32 secs.

Bernie Goodwin was very close behind with a time of 38:53, followed by Dave Phillips (39:09), a time which was good enough for him to collect the first prize for the male veteran runners over-60.

Pushing them all the way were David Emanuel (39:39), Chris Eavers (40:07), Steve Shaw (40:28), John Williamson (41:06), James Troisi (41:38), Dave Freer (41:44), Dean Burgess (42:10), Jeff Cordwell (42:27) and Wayne Critchley (42:46).

The next three Royton finishers, veteran runners Tony Kane, Dave Smith and George Meynell, recorded times of (44:04), (44:25) and (44:33) resectively.

Helen Knight (45:22), Debbie Shaw (46:16), Teresa Hollins (47:09), Phil Hollins (47:12) and over 70 years of age Louise Gilchrist (47:46) all finished with creditable times.

Tony Hunking (54:30), Linda Chadderton (63:47) and June Allingan (65:47) were the other Royton runners to complete the race.
