Both Saints reach semi-finals

THE Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance clubs suspended league fixtures at the weekend for cup action.

The Dukes Shield quarter-finals saw St Anne's progress with a 57-run victory at Cane Studios.

Batting first, Saints were 149-9 with Heap making 52 and Lees 31 before Cane were 92 all out in reply, Lundy top-scoring with 32.

St Mary's OPC inflicted the biggest defeat of the day with a 246-run victory against Waterhead Methodists.

Isfaq's 132 helped Saints to 278-8 before three wickets apiece for Waqas, Wasim and Azad saw Waterhead all out for 32.

Rakesh made 59, Sanjay 45 not out and Jairaj 44 as Bharat reached 229-6 against Radclyffe I who were 193 all out in reply.

Johnson hit 66 and Simpson 40 while Nayan Joshi took 3-23.

The final game saw Levenshulme Cavailers progress by 51 runs against Europa Exiles.

A 100-run stand between McConnell (59 all out) and Boone (48) saw Cavaliers reach 178-4, before Boone then took 4-30 as Exiles made 127-9, Jenkinson with 41.

The semi-finals on August 27 see Levenshulme Cavaliers face St Mary's OPC and Bharat play St Anne's.

Elsewhere, the Fawcett/Penney Supplementary Cup final will be between Jay Hind I and Newtonhurst.

The semi-finals saw Kamlesh and Jitu take three wickets each as Jay Hind I dismissed St Mary's HC for 84 before Dharmesh (43 not out) and Hement helped them to 88-2 in reply.

Rikesh (26) and Jayanti (24 not out) saw Jay Hind II to 114-8 at Newtonhurst for whom Bell struck 46 in their reply of 115-4.

The final is due to be played at Uppermill CC on Sunday, August 28.
