Roytonians’ costly collapse

20/ 7/2005

ROYTONIANS lost more ground in their Manchester League division one bid, suffering a 41-run defeat at Azaad.

Having already lost five players, two more late cry-offs meant the club had to turn to Sheffield-based veteran Mick Hey and last minute signing Karl Fletcher.

They scored 21 and 11 not out respectively as the Royton outfit fell 41 runs short.

Glen Dickenson and Steve Webb had the best bowling figures, helping limit Azaad to 152.

Dickenson top-scored with 25 but a middle order collapse led to another defeat.

Officials are hoping to get back on track this Saturday against Talbot and Sunday's Gavin Whittle Memorial Trophy match against Royton at the Paddock.

Another big crowd is expected and several counter events will take place on the day, including a barbecue and refreshments.
