Woodhouses make a Stand

WOODHOUSES' under-15s side brought the first piece of silverware to Medlock Road for the season when they won the 20-over Lancashire County League Cup final against Stand.

Having lost the toss and been put in, Woodhouses saw captain Thomas Gawler and Michael Ashcroft get them off to a solid start with 47 runs in eight overs before the latter was out for 25.

Gawler continued the momentum though, reaching 50 from 48 balls on his way to an undefeated 76, while Ben Norris hit 16 and Michael Ashworth 24 not out as Woodhouses ended their allotted 20 overs on 156-2.

Stand began their reply slowly as Ben Norris bowled three consecutive maidens, ending his spell with 1-4 from four overs.

However, Holt and Curphey set about attacking the Woodhouses bowling and added 98 runs in 13 overs.

They both fell though in a short space of time although Stand continued to score at the required run rate.

Luke Doyle took three wickets in three overs though, leaving the game in the balance with the last over to go.

Defending seven runs, Woodhouses saw Norris bowl the last ball with Stand needing five runs for victory but unable to secure the runs required as Woodhouses won by two runs.

The under-15s were soon brought back down to earth as they were beaten by the dads in a lads v dads match.
