Lake Garage CLL Round-Up

LAKE Garage Central Lancashire League leaders Littleborough consolidated their position at the top of the table with an 83-run victory at Oldham.

Former Lancashire and England leg-spinner Chris Schofield led the way as the Cheshire cricketer hit 104 in their 206 all out, despite 8-62 from Oldham's South African professional Martin Smith.

However, Oldham's batting let them down - not for the first time this season - as they were all out for 123 in reply.

Crompton were another local side to finish on the wrong end of a result as they went down by six wickets against ever-improving Middleton.

Professional Saeed Anwar hit 84 as Crompton compiled 224 batting first, John Punchard taking 6-69 with extras adding 32 to the Crompton tally.

However, Crompton could only stand and watch Middleton pass their score with only four wickets down.

Sajith Fernando was 61 not out at the end with other good contributions coming from Kumara (50) and Davey (48), although Anwar capped a good all-round performance with 3-71.

With Werneth having the day off, Royton completed the borough's 100 per cent record with the third loss from three games.

They went down by 136 runs at Rochdale where the home side posted a total of 242 built around 107 from New Zealand Test man Lou Vincent, as well as 45 from Simon Brierley.

Mark Woodward had taken 5-60 for Royton who never really threatened what would have been an unlikely victory.

They were all out for 106 in reply, Neil Avery running through the card to finish with 5-14 as extras top-scored with 33.

Lee Gibbons made the highest score with the bat with 16 before he became another Avery victim, caught by Brierley.
