Exiles return with victory

SATURDAY'S Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance action saw the continuation of the Dukes Shield matches.

Europa Exiles continued their good start in Group A with a convincing victory over Jay Hind II.

Batting first, Europa made 180-3 from their allocated overs thanks mainly to Wharmby (73) and Bradbury (57) who featured in a second wicket partnership of 119.

In reply Jay Hind struggled against Towle (3-5) and Jarvey (3-7) as they were dismissed for 30.

In Group B visiting Waterhead had a good victory at hosts Radclyffe II.

They made 162 batting first, the main contributors being M Heywood (39), A Heywood (38) and Wilkes (32) despite Radclyffe's Suitard taking 4-45.

Bailey's 38 was not enough for the home side as they were dismissed for 114, the wickets shared between Pilkington (3-11) Beckwith (3-21) and Lamb (3-29).

Group C saw an excellent game at St Mary's OPC with visitors Radclyffe I making 164-6, B Meyrick top-scoring with 50 with Riswan taking 2-27 for St Mary's.

An excellent 78 from Hammeed Daw saw his side to a four-point win as St Mary's ended on 167-7, Robinson taking 2-31 for Radclyffe who ended with two points.

There was another exciting finish at Bharat in Group D where Jay Hind I made 160-5, Dharmesh with an excellent 54 and Kiran 24.

In reply Jairaj's 28 and a captain's innings of 61 from Jayant was not enough for the hosts as Bharat fell just short of their target on 157-7.

Ardesh was the best of the Jay Hind bowlers with 3-26 as Hind took four points and Bharat two.
