Rain wrecks the Alliance programme

25/ 5/2005

NEWTONHURST maintained their good start to the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance with a winning draw in a rain-affected match with Europa Exiles.

Batting first, Newtonhurst made 165-5 before the Exiles were restricted to 68-3 in reply.

The other completed game saw St Mary's OPC beat Cane Studios by 138 runs.

Saints made a useful 170 despite Jarvis' 4-25, but Rizwan took 6-15 as Cane were dismissed for 32.

Jay Hind I made 125-8 against Levenshulme Cavaliers, Mitesh making 32 while McConnell took 5-23 for the Cavaliers.

Waterhead Methodists recovered from 28-5 to reach 107-8 against St Mary's HC, Bremner top-scoring with 27 while Tuite took 4-41 and Cadman 3-13. Their good work was wasted as further rain caused the match to be abandoned.

Radclyffe's second team were 72-6 against Bharat when the rains came while there was a similar story in the match between their first side and Jay Hind II.

Nixon made 98 and Meyrick 52 in Radclyffe's 180-2 with the home side on 10-1 in reply.
