Handy Andy helps Saddleworth win derby

ANDY McVeigh proved the hero as Saddleworth emerged victorious by two wickets from the Whit Friday derby against Greenfield in the Per-Fit Windows Saddleworth and District League.

He hit 44 to help Saddleworth reach 224-8 in reply to Greenfield's 221-7 which saw Peter Gill also make 44.

Saturday's rain ensured there was no conclusion to any of the day's matches.

There was no play at all between Austerlands and Moorside and Friarmere and Hollinwood.

Elsewhere, Heyside reached 110-2 against Shaw before the heavens opened, Greenfield were 99 all out against Saddleworth, and Bamford Fieldhouse were 106-2 chasing Uppermill's 158 all out.

Sunday saw some better luck with positive outcomes in a couple of games.

Andy Young's 5-54 helped Austerlands dismiss Moorside for 125, despite Maurice Aronstram's 45, but Austerlands were all out for 62 in reply.

Nick Campbell's 5-52 helped Shaw bowl Heyside out for 143 before 63 for Simon Potger and Dave Andrew's 57 saw Shaw home on 147-5.

The matches between Bamford Fieldhouse and Uppermill, and Friarmere and Hollinwood were both abandoned.

Jim Bradbury hit 65 and Pete Roberts 60 not out as Uppermill made 184-5, while Hollinwood were 47-5 against Friarmere when their match ended.

Aamir Bashir had taken 6-77 as Friarmere reached 197-8 of which Waheed Iqbal made 59.
