Almost out on a Lymm
6/ 4/2005
Oldham RUFC 29
Lymm 20
IF OLDHAM RUFC avoid the drop from North Two West this last-gasp win at Manor Park over Lymm will prove vital.
The game should have been over at the break after they hared into a 23-7 interval lead with tries from Dave Kenney and Walter Schumba.
Brian Quinlan's kicking was impeccable throughout and he landed three first-half penalties and converted both tries.
Lymm then fought back brilliantly after the restart, crossing through scrum-half Chris Kinsey and wing men Bob Roberts and Ben Murphy with two conversions helping them storm into a 29-23 lead.
But skipper Paddy Farnan went over late on for Oldham and Quinlan secured a 100 per cent success with the kick to give them what proved a dramatic triumph.
With two games left, Oldham now face leaders Caldy and rock-bottom Blackburn knowing that three points should be enough to escape the drop.
