‘Wood enjoy derby delight

16/ 3/2005

Rugby League Round-Up

HOLLINWOOD defeated Littleborough 20-16 in a closely-fought derby game.

And it took some late magic from man of the match Richard Barber to seal victory, going in under the sticks for a try converted by Martin Swann.

The scores had been deadlocked 14-14 at the break with Lee Bayliss crossing twice and a Nick Hartley try, converted by Kevin Collins, for 'Wood.

Littleborough took the lead with a penalty and looked to be edging towards the win before Barber dummied and darted over.

Forwards Mike Richmond, Tyrone Bennett, Lee Morris and Hartley all excelled with Swann dictating play from the back.

Half-back Mark Kingsley also was in impressive form.

Waterhead A have one hand on the North West Counties Division Four title after a 52-6 defeat of Heysham Atoms.

Once their forwards took control with Danny Heywood, Bob Anders and Danny Mort leading the charge, rampant 'Head ran in nine tries.

Hat-tricks came for man of the match Nick Wood and Michael Monroe, with Jon Perks kicking nine goals.
