Hawks swoop for league title

2/ 3/2005

Stanningley under-16s 8
Hillside Hawks under-16s 44

HAWKS clinched their fourth under-16s league title with victory against a Stanningley side including three on-loan Yorkshire county players.

Their superior ball handling was the dominant factor from the outset as Welsby and Stott twice combined to produce a brace of tries for prop Connie Cullen who completed a 15-minute hat-trick.

Beth Stott was the next Hawk over the line as the hosts struggled in the face of excellent tackling.

Hillside continued to dominate as further tries from Stott, Charlotte Berry (two) and Cullen ended the first half.

The turnaround proved something of a leveller as Hawks faced a strong wind, even though Welsby scored her sixth try in six games.

The Yorkshire hosts continued to work hard though, eventually pulling a try back through Clowes.

She then added a second try but further scores from Katy Hudson and Emily Hinz secured the match and the title for a dominant Hawks side.

  • THE club are looking for new girls from school Year Six upwards to join the club. Anybody interested should phone 01706 656523 for details.
