WATERHEAD kept their North West Counties division four promotion hopes alive with a well-earned 14-10 victory over Wigan Keepers.

Their faster back division earned them the advantage at the break with tries from man of the match Danny England and Les Buckles with Scott Beswick adding a penalty goal.

Up against the elements after that, 'Head restricted Keepers to a solitary try and scored themselves with a late effort from Nick Wood.

Despite taking an early lead Hollinwood were beaten 16-6 at home by Halifax outfit Boothtown Terriers.

A Lee Morris try converted by Kevin Collins gave them a 6-4 half-time advantage but they never looked like scoring after that.

'Wood completed just one set of six after the break before two tries from the visitors - one hotly disputed - sealed their fate.

Alan Dalton was man of the match.

Saddleworth Rangers' survival hopes in the National Conference are looking ever bleaker after their 12-0 defeat at fellow-strugglers Cottingham Tigers.

Rock-bottom Rangers needed to beat the Hull outfit but were never at the races in this encounter. They now face a desperate late-season battle to avoid the ignominy of applying for re-election.

Oldham St Anne's premier division at Leigh East was called off as was Waterhead's home game with Ovenden.

The clubs now face a fixture backlog.
