Cup’s no handicap

GROTTON A earned their first win of the season in the opening round of the Oldham and District Tables Tennis League's Division One handicap Cup.

They prevailed 581-577 against Rosehill A, while a repeat of last year's final saw Werneth A triumph by 60 points over Hollinwood B.

Division two leaders Rosehill B are on course for a double after a 10-point win at Honeywell B, but Werneth C lost by six points against Hollinwood D.

Failsworth C progressed with a 28-point success at Grotton B, Failsworth B recorded a 16-point win at First Transport, while division three leaders Coldhurst A progressed with a 27-point win over Unison B.

Coldhurst B made round two with a 35-point victory at Unison C, Coldhurst C beat PBAIS by three points and Werneth D beat Owls A by 30 points.

Honeywell C defeated Unison D by 11 points and Failsworth F overwhelmed Oldham Deaf by 102 points.

Oldham's seconds played in the second phase of the Lancashire and Cheshire League, beating Barrow 4-2 and drawing 3-3 against Mid-Cheshire.

Oldham's representatives were Peter Morris, John De Pledge, Nick Mooney, Colin Boardman and Dave Buckley.

Players are also reminded that the deadline for entries to the Deckers Restauarants Oldham Closed Championships at Oldham Sports Centre is February 14.
