'HEAD beat an East Leeds side a division higher than them to progress through the Challenge Cup preliminary round.

Michael Fogerty had scored a first-minute try before a converted try and penalty gave the hosts an 8-4 lead.

Tony Pemberton then pounced on a Fogerty kick for a converted try and, despite a converted Carter try, Keil Lancashire then crossed and added a penalty goal to give them a handy 14-18 lead at the interval.

East Leeds briefly regained the advantage after the restart with a try by Moore but Darren Nixon soon side-stepped his way over to give 'Head a two-point lead again.

And although the scores were levelled by a 64th minute penalty goal, Waterhead snatched the win when Lee Charlesworth went over in the corner.

Lancashire converted it and a late Charlesworth penalty goal completed the scoring.
