Hall’s well that ends well

TWO fine saves from England keeper Leanne Hall proved the difference as Oldham were knocked out of the FA Women's Cup fourth round.

A quality game almost got off to the perfect start for Curzon when Alison Hindley forced Hall to turn away her second-minute effort for a corner.

Hall's long kick then gave Natasha Dowie a run on goal, but her attempted lob was parried by Kay Hawke and cleared by Stacey Marsden.

Hawke comfortably saved from Danni Bird before Kelly Dean's volley at the other end was just over.

The second half opened with Bird firing over, while a mass scramble inside Fulham's six-yard area ended with Hall garbbing the ball from Lauren Aldred.

Hindley then saw an effort deflected behind before Hall tipped away another effort from Dean, who then hit the outside of the post.

The winner came on 73 minutes when, from a free-kick, Holly Anderson let the ball run to Bird who drove home from just outside the area.

Hawke then pushed Anderson's header over before Fulham were forced into desperate defending.

Hall had to scurry across goal to turn away Aldred's effort and, from the subsequent corner, Sarah Howden failed to connect with a loose ball from Hall's attempted clearance to end Oldham's FA Cup hopes.
