St Anne’s climb to fourth

Rugby League
Oldham St Anne's 13
Thatto Heath 6

OLDHAM St Anne's climbed to fourth in the National Conference Premier Division with a hard-fought victory on a heavy pitch.

Saints took a first-half lead with an impressive 17th minute try from David Sweeney with Danny Tyrrell adding the extras.

And soon after the restart, Tyrrell crossed between the posts for another try which he duly converted himself to make it 12-0.

Thatto then hit back when second rower David Gee capitalised on some slack defence to score with Mike Woods' goal, reducing the deficit to 12-6.

But two minutes from time - following a missed drop goal from Richard Badby and an uncoverted Tyrrell penalty - Andy Wallace confirmed Saints' win with a late drop goal.
