Super League switch as Waterhead tame Tigers

12/ 1/2005

SADDLEWORTH Rangers' loose forward Mark Flanagan has signed for Super League giants Bradford Bulls.

The 17-year-old was targeted by several Super League clubs but chose to join the reigning world champions.

Mark is the son of former Great Britain and Oldham loose forward Terry Flanagan who toured Australia with the 1984 Lions side that was skippered by Brian Noble, the current Bulls and Great Britain coach.

Noble said: "We are delighted to have secured Mark's signature for the Bulls.

"He is a tremendous talent and we are confident he has all the attributes to emulate his father and enjoy a successful career in Rugby League."

Rangers' home game against Eastmoor and Waterhead's game at Crossfields both fell victim to waterlogged pitches at the weekend.

  • WATERHEAD A produced an excellent performance to triumph 36-16 at promotion-chasing Widnes Tigers.

They took a commanding 18-0 lead by half-time but allowed the hosts back into the game after the break.

However, they sealed the win when Warren Beswick fed man of the match Nick Wood to run 50 metres and score under the posts.

Scott Beswick and Paul Greener grabbed a brace of tries each with one coming from Danny Mort and six conversions from Jon Perks.
