HOLLINWOOD never looked like troubling unbeaten Underbank Rangers with what was some pathetic tackling, and within the first five minutes the visitors were eight points to the good.

By half-time the score was 34-4 to the visitors, Kevin Collins having dived over in the corner for Hollinwood's only points of the game.

The local side were lucky that the visitors' goal kicker had an off day, kicking just four goals, or the score line would have been even more embarrassing.

  • Saddleworth Rangers lost 44-26 at Heworth after holding the hosts to a narrow 8-6 lead for most of the first half. Despite missing several players, including new recruit Keith Brennan, there was nothing between the sides until Heworth enjoyed a purple patch and ran in four tries - three converted - in a devastating 10-minute spell.
  • The Standard Cup semi-finals take place next week: as follows: Tuesday December 28 sees Mayfield play Saddleworth Rangers at Higginshaw Road, 1pm kick-off. The following day, Oldham St Anne's play Waterhead at Shaw Hall Bank Road, Greenfield, kick-off 7pm.
  • Oldham St Anne's under-11s enjoyed a less than perfect start before defeating Wigan St Pats 18-10. Already down to 11 players through illness, they saw Harry Tindall leave the field injured. However, Wigan illustrated good sportsmanship by agreeing to play 10 against 10. Nathan Hughes scored two tries - coming close to a hat-trick - with the other from Kendal Davies. Jack Tindall, Oliver Kerr and Danny Foster kicked the goals.
