15/12/2004

Wheelchair Basketball

SATURDAY saw Oldham bring the curtain down on the first half of the season with a 78-65 victory against Newcastle Sharks

The Owls started slowly and trailed 5-4 after five minutes before a 7-0 run saw them go clear.

However, a series of three-pointers from Terry Bywater saw Sharks lead 16-15 at the end of the quarter.

He helped Sharks extend the lead to 22-15 before Owls replied to level at 35-35 at the break.

They then held an eight-point lead in the third quarter, but Newcastle again replied as the Owls held a tentative lead going into the final period.

Oldham took the game away from Newcastle in the final quarter, leading 71-63 after eight minutes.

The Sharks were penalised repeatedly late on, leading Oldham to the free throw line and giving them a hard-fought win.
